December 27, 1900, Prohibitionist Carrie Nation Smashes Saloon In Wichita, Kansas - Today In Crime History

On this day, December 27, in the year 1900, prohibitionist Carrie Nation entered the bar at the  Hotel Carey in Wichita, Kansas, and began destroying the interior.  The hotel bar gained nation-wide recognition after the militant prohibitionist waged her attack.

December 5, 1933, Federal Prohibition Of The Manufacture & Sale Of Alcohol Ends - Today In Crime History

On this day, December 5, in the year 1933, the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, repealing the 18th Amendment, and bringing an end to the era of national prohibition of the sale and manufacture of alcohol in America.  At 5:32 p.m. EST, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the amendment, achieving the requisite three-fourths majority of states' approval.  Pennsylvania and Ohio also ratified the amendment earlier on the same day.

October 28, 1919, Congress Criminalizes The Possession of Alcohol - Today In Crime History

On this day, October 28,  in the year 1919, the U.S. Congress passed the Volstead Act, which banned the possession of intoxicating beverages and ushered in the era known as Prohibition.  Across the entire United States it became a crime to manufacture, transport, import, export, sell, possess or consume alcoholic beverages.
