On this day, October 12, in the year 1978, Nancy Spungen, the twenty year old girlfriend of former Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious, was found dead in a blood stained bathroom in their room at the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan, New York. Spungen had a single stab wound in her abdomen. Police arrested Sid Vicious (real name John Simon Ritchie), who had given inconsistent descriptions of what happened.
